           SUMMARY  

          This technical clean-up bill delays the operative date of new 
          reporting requirements related to radiation overexposure.  

           FISCAL EFFECT  

          Negligible direct state fiscal impact.  

           COMMENTS  

           Rationale  . AB 1237 (Padilla), Chapter 521, Statutes of 2010 
          instituted several new requirements on facilities that 
          administer computed tomography (CT) examinations or radiation 
          therapy, including a requirement to report to the Department of 
          Public Health instances of radiation overexposure or other 
          accidents relating to radiation.  According to a letter 
          submitted to the Senate Daily Journal on August 30, 2010, the 
          author intended that the reporting requirement become operative 
          July 1, 2012, along with other sections of the bill.  However, 
          late amendments applied this operative date only to other 
          sections of the bill, and not to the reporting requirement, 
          which then became operative January 1, 2011.  This bill would 
          apply the July 1, 2012 date to the reporting requirement, as 
          intended, giving DPH and facilities adequate time to develop 
          reporting parameters and comply with the requirement.  There is 
          no registered opposition to this bill.
