SENATE VOTE : 34-0
SUBJECT : Women's History Month and women's suffrage.
SUMMARY : Celebrates Women's History Month in March, and
commemorates the centennial of women's suffrage in California.
Specifically, this resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1)After defeat in 1896, women suffragists successfully lobbied
the Legislature; and in 1911, SCR 8 was introduced to put the
question to voters of whether women should be allowed to vote.
2)When the vote was finally completed several days after the
October 10, 1911, Election Day, California voters passed Equal
Suffrage by only 3,587 votes with rural districts contributing
immensely to the victory.
3)With the passage of votes for women in California, the number
of women with full suffrage in the United States doubled; and
San Francisco became the most populous city in the world in
which women could vote.
