Robert Rosas Memorial Highway."
Senate Floor Analysis of 5/24/11 clarify the road segment
being named in honor of Border Patrol agent Robert Rosas
Memorial Highway.
ANALYSIS : Born and raised in El Centro, California,
Robert Rosas graduated from El Centro's Central Union High
School in 1997. Entering law enforcement at age 21, he
worked for six years as a correctional officer at Centinela
State Prison. In 2006, Mr. Rosas began his career with the
U.S. Border Patrol. On July 23, 2009, Agent Rosas was

following a group of suspicious individuals near Campos on
the U.S.-Mexico border. He radioed for backup from other
agents. When the responding agents arrived on the scene
they heard shots and a short while later found Agent Rosas,
who had been shot. Agent Rosas died at the scene. At his
memorial service, an event that drew thousands, he was
remembered as the "Mayor of El Centro" because of his
popularity in his home community.
Agent Rosas died in the line of duty at age 30. He is
survived by his wife, Rosalie, and their two children.
This resolution designates State Highway Route 8 in San
Diego County from mile post R51 to mile post R55.80 as the
"U.S. Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas Memorial Highway."
The resolution further requests that the Department of
Transportation erect appropriate signs upon receiving
donations from non-state sources to cover the costs.
