SUBJECT : California Prayer Breakfast
SOURCE : Author
DIGEST : This resolution recognizes that the California
Prayer Breakfast is commemorating and celebrating its 50th
year of existence at the
State Capitol in 2011 with the California Prayer Breakfast
being held on May 19, 2011, at the Sheraton Grand
Sacramento Hotel.
ANALYSIS :
1. The California Prayer Breakfast is inspired by, and
patterned after, the National Prayer Breakfast, which is
held each year in Washington, D.C., and was created as a
result of President Eisenhower's call from the White
House one evening to his friend, Senator Frank Carlson
of Kansas, in which he is believed to have said:
"Frank, this is the loneliest house that I've ever been

nation.
3. Like the National Prayer Breakfast, the California
Prayer Breakfast is sponsored and planned by a group of
legislators, without regard to party affiliation, who
meet weekly at 7:30 a.m. in an in-depth bible study in
the Senate Rules Committee Room at the State Capitol.
4. For 50 years, the California Legislators' Fellowship
Group has been meeting weekly for a time of fellowship
in the reconciling spirit of prayer.
5. The California Legislators' Fellowship Group is
bipartisan, nondenominational, includes legislators of
diverse spiritual backgrounds and experience, and
welcomes all legislators who have a common interest in
developing and nurturing their spiritual lives.
6. The California Prayer Breakfast has sought to encourage
men and women throughout the State of California to
recognize their spiritual privileges and
responsibilities.
