ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES
Nancy Skinner, Chair
SCR 67 (Huff) - As Amended: April 16, 2012
SENATE VOTE : 35-0
SUBJECT : Food Allergy Awareness Week.
SUMMARY : Designates the week of May 13 through May19, 2012, as
Food Allergy Awareness Week. Specifically, this resolution
makes the following legislative findings:
1)Research shows that the prevalence of food allergies is
increasing among children; and, eight foods that cause 90
percent of all food allergy reactions in the United States are
shellfish, fish, milk, egg, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, and
wheat.
2)Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that is rapid in
onset and may cause death; and, strict avoidance of the
offending food is the only way to prevent an allergic
reaction.
3)There is no cure for a food allergy and scientists do not
understand why food allergies occur; and, the Food Allergy &
Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) is a national, nonprofit
organization dedicated to raising awareness about food allergy
and anaphylaxis.
