Sanchez Memorial Bridge and a segment of SR 35 as the John Burton
          highway. Specifically, this bill :

1)Recounts the life and career of Randy Sanchez, a former manager
at the Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

            Burton Highway.

4)Requests Caltrans to determine the cost of appropriate signs,
consistent with the signing requirements for the state highway
system, showing these special designations, and upon receiving
donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover those costs,
            to erect those signs.

EXISTING LAW : Assigns Caltrans the responsibility to operate and
maintain state highways. This includes the installation and
          maintenance of highway signs.

Committee, minor costs to Caltrans to make and erect appropriate
signs; sign costs are covered by donations.

COMMENTS : Randy Sanchez, a native of New Jersey, worked for
several years for Caltrans and was project manager. In that
capacity, he worked on several projects related to cross border
access on Otay Mesa. On September 21, 2004, a motorist ran a red
light, and struck and killed Mr. Sanchez while he was riding his
motorcycle to work. Mr. Sanchez is survived by his wife Annette
and two children, Ryan and Nicole.

John Burton served at various times in the California State
Assembly, U.S. Congress, and California State Senate, between 1965
and 2004. From 1998 through 2004, he was the President pro
Tempore of the State Senate. He also served on two separate
occasions as chair of the California Democratic Party. He founded
