DIGEST : This resolution names the interchange of State
Highway Route (SR) 50 and Hazel Avenue in Sacramento County
as the "Senator Dave Cox Interchange."
ANALYSIS : Senator Dave Cox was born in Oklahoma in 1938;
Dave Cox came to California and attended the University of
San Diego. He maintained a life insurance business while
also being active in community and church activities. He
served in local elected office both on the Sacramento
Municipal Utility District Board and on the Sacramento
County of Board of Supervisors. In 1998, he won election
to the State Assembly, where he served for six years,
including a stint as the Assembly Republican Leader. In
2004, Cox won election to the California State Senate,
where he represented the first district until his death in

2010. He is survived by his wife, Maggie, and their
daughters Cathleen, Margo, and Sarah, as well as six
grandchildren.
This resolution designates the interchange of SR 50 and
Hazel Avenue located in Sacramento County as the Senator
Dave Cox Interchange. The resolution further requests that
the Department of Transportation erect appropriate signs
upon receiving donations from non-state sources to cover
the costs.
