SUMMARY
This bill requires a construction vehicle with a gross vehicle
weight greater than 14,000 pounds that operates at or transports
construction or industrial materials to and from a mine or
construction site to be equipped with an automatic backup alarm
that normally can be heard from a distance of at least 200 feet.
FISCAL EFFECT
Minor, absorbable state special fund costs to the California
Highway Patrol to ensure affected trucks are properly equipped
with a backup alarms as part of CHP's regular inspection of
commercial vehicles.
COMMENTS
1)Rationale . The author contends this bill will increase safety
at mine and construction sites by requiring the large trucks
that service those sites to have audible backup alarms.
2)Support . The bill is supported by the California Construction
and Industrial Materials Association (sponsor), the California
Teamsters Public Affairs Council and other industry and labor
organizations.
