To the Members of the California State Senate:

I am returning Senate Bill 512 without my signature.

This bill requires that current school reporting practices include
performance data for "any pupil subgroup?that includes ten or more
pupils."

I commend the author for his important work to improve the public
reporting of test scores for students. I note that the African
American Advisory Committee convened by the State Board of Education
made this recommendation in May and it has now been adopted and
implemented. Therefore, this bill is no longer required.

I welcome the opportunity to work with the author to achieve our
mutual goals administratively whenever possible.
