ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON APPROPRIATIONS
Felipe Fuentes, Chair
SB 933 (Runner) - As Amended: April 5, 2011
Policy Committee: Business and
Professions Vote: 9-0
Urgency: No State Mandated Local Program:
No Reimbursable: No
SUMMARY
As proposed to be amended, this bill makes several technical
changes related to the recent consolidation of licensure
programs for hearing aid dispensers and speech-language
pathologists and audiologists, including consolidating all
licensure revenue for these professions into one fund. The
technical amendment simply conforms a related code section to
the new name of the consolidated fund (Speech-Language Pathology
and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Fund).
FISCAL EFFECT
Negligible state fiscal impact. The board indicates that the
consolidation into one fund will help stabilize revenue and
streamline operations.
COMMENTS
Rationale . According to the sponsor of this measure, the Speech
Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers
Board, this measure provides technical clean-up necessary to
consolidate the relevant practice acts and governance for speech
language pathologists and audiologists, and hearing aid
dispensers.
Related Legislation . AB 1535 (Jones), Chapter 309, Statutes of
2009, created the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and
Hearing Aid Dispensers Board, and consolidated the functions of
the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board and the
Hearing Aid Dispensers Bureau into this new board.
