SB 1087 (Walters) - As Amended: August 6, 2012
Policy Committee: Human
ServicesVote:5 - 1
Urgency: No State Mandated Local Program:
No Reimbursable:
SUMMARY
This bill increases the number of hours a week from 30 to 60
that an after school program operated by a city, county, or
non-profit may operate and prohibits a pupil from attending a
locally operated After School Education and Safety (ASES)
program for more than 30 hours a week.
FISCAL EFFECT
Costs associated with this legislation should be minor and
absorbable within existing resources.
COMMENTS
1)Purpose . This bill expands the operating hours of the ASES
programs primarily to accommodate the half school day
schedules of kindergartners.
2)Related Legislation . AB 1312 (Smyth) would have expanded the
number of authorized hours that unlicensed public recreation
programs can operate their programs for children ages zero to
18 years. That bill was never heard in Assembly Human
Services.
