SUMMARY
This bill extends the sunset date of the Board of Psychology
(BOP) and the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) and extends
their authority to appoint an executive officer (EO).
Specifically, this bill:
1)Extends the sunset date of the BOP, and its authority to
employ an EO from January 1, 2013 until January 1, 2017.
2)Extends the sunset date of the BBS, and its authority to
appoint an EO from January 1, 2013 until January 1, 2017.
3)Requires that the repeal of the BOP and BBS is subject to
review by the appropriate policy committees of the
Legislature.
FISCAL EFFECT
Annual fee-supported special fund costs associated with
continued operation of the following regulatory entities, as
follows:
1)Board of Psychology, of $4.5 million, until January 1, 2017.
2)Board of Behavioral Sciences, of $8.2 million, until January
1, 2017.
COMMENTS
1)Rationale . This bill is one of the four sunset bills authored
by Senator Price this year. According to the author, this
bill is necessary to extend the sunset date of various

oversight boards.
2)Related Legislation . Other sunset bills pending in committee
include SB 1236 (Price), which relates to the Board of
Podiatric Medicine and the Physician Assistant Committee; SB
1237 (Price), which relates to the Physical Therapy Board, the
Board of Pharmacy, and the Court Reporters Board; and SB 1239
(Price), which relates to the Acupuncture Board.
