ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON BUSINESS, PROFESSIONS AND CONSUMER
PROTECTION
Mary Hayashi, Chair
SB 1395 (Rubio) - As Amended: May 15, 2012
SENATE VOTE : 33-0
SUBJECT : State Auditor.
SUMMARY : Renames the "Bureau of State Audits" (BSA) to the
"California State Auditor's Office," and the "State Auditor"
(SA) to "California State Auditor."
EXISTING LAW sets forth the duties and powers of the BSA, and
requires the SA to examine and report annually upon the
financial statements prepared by the executive branch of the
state and to perform other related assignments, including
mandated performance audits.
FISCAL EFFECT : Unknown
COMMENTS :
Purpose of this bill . According to the author's office, "This
bills imply changes the name of the 'BSA' to the 'California
State Auditor's Office.' Current statutes refer to both the
'SA' and the 'BSA.' The SA believes that this is confusing and
makes it appear as if there are two separate state entities with
auditor responsibilities. The proposed change would clarify
that there is one single state entity responsible for audits."
