AJR 48, as introduced, Rodriguez. Federal memorials: emergency medical services.

This measure would memorialize the President and Congress of the United States to enact legislation to authorize the National Emergency Medical Services Memorial Foundation to establish the National Emergency Medical Services Memorial in the District of Columbia.

P1    1WHEREAS, Emergency medical service providers stand on the
2country’s first line of defense in the prevention and mitigation of
3harm from terrorist attacks, man-made incidents, and natural
4disasters; and

5WHEREAS, The men and women of emergency medical
6services serve in both the public and private sectors as career and
7volunteer emergency medical service providers, maintaining the
8domestic tranquility, safety, and security of the country; and

9WHEREAS, Each year, 850,000 men and women of emergency
10medical services across the country answer more than 30 million
11calls to serve 22 million patients in need of pre-hospital care and
12comfort at a moment’s notice and without reservation; and

13WHEREAS, Statistics compiled by the United States Department
14of Labor and the National Highway Safety Administration indicate
P2    1that emergency medical service providers die in the line of duty
2at a rate more than twice the national average for all occupational
3fatalities and seven times higher from violence than all other health
4care workers in service to the country; and

5WHEREAS, The National Emergency Medical Services
6Memorial Foundation, established in 2007, seeks to give these
7silent heroes a fitting memorial and their loved ones, coworkers,
8and counterparts a permanent place to remember those the country
9has lost; and

10WHEREAS, Legislation was introduced in the House of
11Representatives on May 20, 2014, to authorize the National
12Emergency Medical Services Memorial Foundation to establish
13the National Emergency Medical Services Memorial as a
14commemorative work on federal land in the District of Columbia
15or its environs; now, therefore, be it

16Resolved by the Assembly and the Senate of the State of
17California, jointly,
That the Legislature of the State of California
18hereby memorializes the President and Congress of the United
19States to enact legislation to authorize the National Emergency
20Medical Services Memorial Foundation to establish the National
21Emergency Medical Services Memorial, honoring the commitment
22and ultimate sacrifice of emergency medical service providers;
23and be it further

24Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
25of this resolution to the President and Vice President of the United
26States, to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to the
27Majority Leader of the Senate, and to each Senator and
28Representative from California in the Congress of the United
29States.
