ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES
Nancy Skinner, Chair
HR 11 (Eggman et.al.) - As Introduced: March 7, 2013
SUBJECT : Women in the United States Armed Forces.
SUMMARY : Recognizes the contributions of women in the United
States Armed Forces are an example for all to follow, an
important part of this nation's history, and are to celebrated
during Women's History Month. Specifically, this resolution
makes the following legislative findings:
1)During the American Revolution, women served with valor and
distinction on the field of battle, in some cases posing as
men in order to serve their country; and, in 1942 the
establishment of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps was
established and within a year the full Women's Army Corps was
in place.
2)Currently, the number of women serving on active duty in the
armed forces has grown to exceed 200,000, comprising more than
14 percent of the entire force; and, many women have risen to
the highest levels of command in the United States Armed
Forces.
3)Despite a long-standing exclusion of women from direct combat
roles, many women have died fighting for this nation in Iraq
and Afghanistan, and hundreds more have been wounded in those
conflicts.
4)Women have been breaking barriers to service for the entire
history of our nation; and we honor the achievements of those
women both who are serving and those who have served in the
past.
