House Resolution No. 12—Relative to the University of California 4-H Youth Development Program.

P1    1WHEREAS, 2013 marks the centennial year of the University
2of California 4-H Youth Development Program; and

3WHEREAS, The University of California 4-H Youth
4Development Program is deserving of special public recognition
5and the highest commendations for its distinguished record of
6helping young people become healthy, happy, and thriving citizens
7who make a positive difference in their communities; and

8WHEREAS, The mission of the University of California 4-H
9Youth Development Program is to engage youth in reaching their
10fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development;
11and

12WHEREAS, More than 72,000 young people are active annually
13in 4-H programs in California, and there have been more than one
14million 4-H alumni in this state since the founding of 4-H; and

15WHEREAS, Youth-adult partnerships and youth-centered
16educational programs are available through local clubs, after school
17programs, and camps; and

18WHEREAS, The Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources
19of the University of California, a land-grant university, delivers
20the 4-H Youth Development Program through the California
21Cooperative Extension System; and

P2    1WHEREAS, There are 13,400 adult volunteers in California
2who contribute countless hours and effort each year to educating
3young 4-H members; and

4WHEREAS, 4-H emphasizes programming to promote healthy
5living, science, engineering, technology literacy, citizenship, and
6leadership through learning-by-doing; and

7WHEREAS, 4-H addresses issues facing young people wherever
8they may live, including cities, suburbs, and rural communities;
9and

10WHEREAS, 4-H values young people as a resource capable of
11providing solutions to the critical issues facing our communities;
12and

13WHEREAS, 4-H members create positive changes in every
14community in the State of California; and

15WHEREAS, 4-H members build skills that help them to thrive
16as competent, confident, caring leaders of character who are
17connected to others and contribute to their communities; now,
18therefore, be it

19Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the
20University of California 4-H Youth Development Program be
21commended, on the occasion of its centennial, for the outstanding
22contributions it has made to young people throughout the state,
23and that it be extended sincere best wishes for the next 100 years;
24and be it further

25Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
26of this resolution to the author and to the University of California
274-H Youth Development Program.
