House Resolution No. 40—Relative to School Bus Drivers Day.

P1    1WHEREAS, Annually, on the fourth Tuesday of April, the
2people of California should officially recognize all school bus
3drivers for their continued and excellent services to the youth of
4the state, and these drivers are deserving of special public
5recognition and the highest commendations; and

6WHEREAS, The California Association of School
7Transportation Officials is a professional organization that
8promotes safe pupil transportation and advocates for continued
9high standards for California’s school bus drivers; and

10WHEREAS, The safety of our children rests in the hands of
11trained school bus drivers for up to six or seven hours each school
12day; and

13WHEREAS, Personal time and energy are expended by school
14bus drivers in their initial training, maintaining a current license,
15perfecting their driving skills, and accruing added knowledge of
16school bus laws through continuing education classes; and

17WHEREAS, School bus drivers, through counseling and
18disciplinary techniques, are sometimes asked to assist pupils in
19appropriate interactive peer and adult behavior; and

20WHEREAS, School bus drivers often face natural and
21unexpected hazards in the performance of their duties; and

22WHEREAS, School bus drivers exhibit patience and kindness
23toward pupils, parents, and school staff in the performance of their
24duties; and

P2    1WHEREAS, School bus drivers consistently demonstrate an
2awareness of, and direct attention to, the mechanical maintenance
3of the school bus and safety conditions of the school bus routes;
4and

5WHEREAS, Many school bus drivers perform their services
6for thousands and thousands of accident-free miles, year after year;
7now, therefore, be it

8Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the
9Assembly declares April 22, 2014, as School Bus Drivers Day in
10California in order to officially recognize school bus drivers for
11their continued and excellent services to the youth of the State of
12California; and be it further

13Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
14of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
