SUBJECT : Emergency Medical Services Week

DIGEST : This resolution proclaims May 18, 2014, through May
24, 2014, as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week.
ANALYSIS : This resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1.It is estimated that there are over 840,000 EMS personnel in
the United States, including over 80,000 in California.
2.EMS systems consist of emergency physicians, emergency nurses,
emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters,
educators, administrators, and others who engage in thousands
of hours of specialized training and continuing education to
enhance their lifesaving skills.
3.Access to quality emergency medical care dramatically improves
the survival and recovery rates of those who experience sudden
illness or injury.

4.This is the 40th anniversary of National EMS Week; and the
theme of EMS Week is "EMS: Dedicated for Life." This theme
has a dual meaning; first, it demonstrates that EMS providers
are dedicated to saving lives, and second, it expresses the
sense of duty to aid others that is inherent in the profession
and stays with an EMS provider for life.
This resolution proclaims May 18, 2014, through May 24, 2014, as
EMS Week.
