SUBJECT : Border Patrol Agent Eric Norman Cabral Memorial
          Bridge

           SOURCE : Author

DIGEST : This resolution designates the Round Mountain Bridge
on Interstate 8 in San Diego County as the Border Patrol Agent
          Eric Norman Cabral Memorial Bridge.

ANALYSIS : The author introduced this resolution as a tribute
to the life of Agent Eric Norman Cabral, a dedicated member of
the United States Border Patrol who died from heat-related
injuries after tracking on foot a group of suspected
          undocumented immigrants.

Agent Eric Norman Cabral grew up in San Diego, where he enjoyed
participating in sports and outdoor recreational activities. He
graduated from Morse High School in 1994. His passion for
health and fitness led him to obtain a degree in kinesiology
from San Diego State University, and then a Master's Degree in
Physical Education in 2003 from Azusa Pacific University. In
2005, Cabral joined the United States Border Patrol.

At the age of 31, Agent Cabral died on July 26, 2007, while on
duty in Boulevard, California. Agent Cabral and his partner
spent most of that day tracking a group of suspected
undocumented immigrants through the rocky, mountainous terrain
north of Interstate 8 and Carrizo Gorge Road. It appeared Agent
Cabral died of dehydration or heat stroke. He is survived by
his parents, three sisters, a girlfriend and her three children,
and a host of other extended family members and friends.

This resolution designates the Round Mountain Bridge on
Interstate 8 as the "Border Patrol Agent Eric Norman Cabral
Memorial Bridge." This resolution further requests that the
Department of Transportation (Caltrans) erect appropriate signs
upon receiving donations from nonstate sources to cover the
          costs.

FISCAL EFFECT : Fiscal Com.: Yes

According to the Senate Appropriations Committee, there are no
state costs. All costs for Caltrans to erect signage are to be
covered by donations from nonstate source.
