This measure would designate a specified portion of State Highway Route 99 in Sutter County as the California Smallbegin delete Businessesend deletebegin insert Business Owners’end insert Highway. The measure would also request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources coveringbegin delete theend deletebegin insert thatend insert cost, to erect those signs.

P1    1WHEREAS, The month of June is celebrated as California Small
2Business Month, in recognition of the tremendous contributions
3begin insert thatend insert small businesses make to the economic strength of our nation
4and state; and

5WHEREAS, The nation’s 28 million small businesses are the
6job creation engine of the American economy, responsible for
P2    1one-half of all private sector jobs, andbegin insert areend insert the source of roughly
270 percent of all new jobs in the last decade; and

3WHEREAS, California is home to three and one-half million
4of these small businesses, accounting for 99 percent of the state’s
5employers and 52 percent of the state’s workforce, and producing
6more than one-half of California’s gross domestic product; and

7WHEREAS, California is home to the most innovative and
8competitive businesses in the world, placing the state consistently
9among the top 10 economies in the world; and

10WHEREAS, California’s small businesses are critical to the
11economic health of the state because small businesses are
12innovative forces in the marketplace and are among the most likely
13to take risks to create new technologies and industries; and

14WHEREAS, A commitment to small businesses and support
15for small-scale private-sector job creators are among the most
16promising strategies to enhance California’s human capital, expand
17job opportunities, and increase the state’s competitive advantage
18in the global marketplace; and

19WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize the important role of
20small businesses in California’s economy by dedicating a portion
21of Statebegin insert Routeend insert Highway 99 as the California Smallbegin delete Businessesend delete
22begin insert Business Owners’end insert Highway; now, therefore, be it

23Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
24thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby designates the
25portion of State Highway Route 99 between Hull Road and Stewart
26Road in Sutter County as the California Smallbegin delete Businessesend deletebegin insert Business
27Owners’end insert
Highway; and be it further

28Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested
29to determine the cost of appropriate signs consistent with the
30signing requirements for the state highway system showing this
31special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate
32sources sufficient to coverbegin delete theend deletebegin insert thatend insert cost, to erect those signs; and
33be it further

34Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
35of this resolution to the Director of Transportation and to the author
36for appropriate distribution.
