Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 131—Relative to the Armed Forces.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 131, as amended, Nazarian. Armed Forces Day.

This measure would honor and recognize the service and sacrifice made by members of the Armed Forces and their families on the occasion of Armed Forces Day on May 17, 2014.

P2    1WHEREAS, Armed Forces Day was created in 1949 in
2connection with the consolidation of the military services in the
3United States Department of Defense; and

4WHEREAS, The purpose of Armed Forces Day is to honor the
5men and women who are serving in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps,
6Air Force, and Coast Guard, including the National Guard and
7Reserve components; and

8WHEREAS, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third
9Saturday in May, which this year is May 17, 2014; and

10WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Forces have performed
11tremendous service on behalf of the United States; and

12WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Forces have been killed
13and injured in operations to bring peace and stability in the name
14of democracy; and

15WHEREAS, All Americans appreciate the sacrifices of those
16who bravely serve our country, and acknowledge those businesses
17and employers that accommodate those service people who are
18called abroad to defend their nation; and

19WHEREAS, All Americans express their recognition and
20gratitude for members of the Armed Forces at home and abroad;
21now, therefore, be it

22Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
23thereof concurring,
That the Legislature, on the occasion of Armed
24Forces Day 2014;

25(1) Honors and recognizes the service and sacrifice that members
26of the Armed Forces and their families gave, and continue to give,
27to the United States;

28(2) Remains committed to supporting the members of the Armed
29Forces and their families;

30(3) Encourages Americans to show their support and
31appreciation for members of the Armed Forces on Armed Forces
32Day;

33(4) Commends the actions of private citizens and organizations
34who volunteer to support America’s wounded warriors; and

35(5) Expresses the gratitude of the American people to the
36members of the Armed Forces for their service on behalf of the
37 United States; and be it further

P3    1Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
2of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
