               ACR 136 (Eggman/Alejo) - As Introduced: April 21, 2014

          SUBJECT : National Strawberry Month.

SUMMARY : Celebrates May 2014 as National Strawberry Month and
recognizes the contributions of California strawberry farmers
and the California Strawberry Commission in supporting a
quintessential California crop that sustains families,
communities, the environment, the California economy, and the
opportunity for immigrants to pursue the American Dream.
Specifically, this resolution makes the following legislative
          findings:

1)California grows more strawberries than any other place in the
world; and producing 90 percent of the strawberries grown in
            the United States.

2)California's 400 family farmers and 60 shippers and processors
of strawberries are responsible for contributing $2.3 billion
the economy and generating thousands of jobs from researchers
            to harvesters.

3)California's strawberry farmers are leading the world in
environmental research dedicated to improving and promoting
sustainable farming practices; and, thanks to these farmers
some 40,000 acres along the coast are protected and preserved.

4)In 1994, the California Strawberry Commission formed the
California Strawberry Scholarship Program which has given over
$1.5 million to farmers' children bound for college or trade
            schools.
