SENATE TRANSPORTATION & HOUSING COMMITTEE BILL NO: acr 162
SENATOR MARK DESAULNIER, CHAIRMAN AUTHOR: medina
                                                         VERSION: 6/17/14
Analysis by: Eric Thronson FISCAL: no
          Hearing date: August 12, 2014

          SUBJECT:

CDF Firefighter John D. Guthrie Memorial Highway

          DESCRIPTION:

This resolution rededicates a segment of State Highway Route
(SR) 215 in Riverside County as the CDF Firefighter John D.
Guthrie Memorial Highway in order to correct a mistake in a
          previous legislative resolution.

          ANALYSIS:

In 2008, the Legislature passed Assembly Concurrent Resolution
107 (Cook), Resolution Chapter 80, designating a segment of SR
215 in Riverside County as the CDF Firefighter John D. Guthrie
Memorial Highway. ACR 107 stated that Mr. Guthrie and his crew
perished in the Decker Canyon Fire of 1959.

This resolution rededicates a segment of SR 215 in Riverside
County as the CDF Firefighter John D. Guthrie Memorial Highway
in order to correct a mistake in ACR 107.

          COMMENTS:

Purpose . Although Assemblymember Cook's resolution in 2008
stated that Mr. Guthrie and his entire crew perished in the
Decker Canyon Fire, the fact is that Mr. Guthrie sacrificed
himself in order to save the lives of his crew. According to
the author, his office was contacted by Mr. Guthrie's widow,
Carlo Guthrie, asking that the correct information be placed
into a resolution to accurately memorialize the bravery of her
          husband.
