BILL NUMBER: AB 1503
  VETOED	DATE: 07/21/2014

To the Members of the California State Assembly:

I am returning Assembly Bill 1503 without my signature.

This bill would require the state to enter into a long-term lease
with a specific non-profit organization for the construction and
operation of a museum on the property of Folsom State Prison.
Current law already allows the state to enter into shorter leases
without specifying the lessee.

Rather than forcing the state to allow a little-known,
non-governmental entity to use public property for up to 50 years, I
would prefer that supporters pursue the existing authority provided
in statute.

Sincerely,

Edmund G. Brown Jr.
