SUMMARY
This bill requires every vehicle registration service to
disclose to their customers, in writing or online as
appropriate, that their services are provided by the DMV without
an additional fee.
FISCAL EFFECT
Minor and absorbable costs for the DMV to conform regulations
for registration services.
COMMENTS
Purpose . The DMV works with private partners offering
registration services that may provide more convenience for the
customer. These are primarily car dealerships that register a
car for the customer at the time of purchase and newer online
web sites that perform a variety of DMV-like services.
Currently, there are 1,829 DMV authorized and licensed
registration service providers. The bill requires the providers,
whether web-based or in person, to conspicuously disclose the
fact that the service they offer is available from the DMV for
free.
