An act to amend Section 25722.9 of the Public Resources Code, relating to energy.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

AB 1696, as introduced, Wieckowski. Energy: alternatively fueled vehicles: incentives.

Existing law requires the Department of General Services and Department of Transportation to develop and implement advanced technology vehicle parking incentive programs in specified parking facilities to provide incentives for the purchase and use of alternatively fueled vehicles in the state and lists exemplars of those incentives.

This bill would expressly list parking spaces with charging stations for plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles as an exemplar of the incentives.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.  

Section 25722.9 of the Public Resources Code
2 is amended to read:

25722.9.  

(a) For purposes of this section, “alternatively fueled
4vehicles” means light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles that
5reduce petroleum usage and related emissions by using advanced
6technologies and fuels, including, but not limited to, hybrid, plug-in
7hybrid, battery electric, natural gas, or fuel cell vehicles and
P2    1including those vehicles described in Section 5205.5 of the Vehicle
2Code.

3(b) The Department of General Services and the Department of
4Transportation shall develop and implement advanced technology
5vehicle parking incentive programs, to the extent feasible, in public
6parking facilities of 50 spaces or more operated by the Department
7of General Services and park-and-ride lots owned and operated
8by the Department of Transportation tobegin delete incentivizeend deletebegin insert provide
9incentives forend insert
the purchase and use of alternatively fueled vehicles
10in the state. These programs shall provide meaningful, tangible
11benefits for drivers of alternatively fueled vehicles. These
12incentives may includebegin insert parking spaces with charging stations for
13plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles,end insert
preferential spaces, reduced
14fees, and fueling infrastructure for alternatively fueled vehicles
15that use these parking facilities or park-and-ride lots.
