Existing law establishes the State Historical Resources Commission and the California Register of Historical Resources. Existing law requires the Department of Parks and Recreation to consider all recommendations for registration made by the commission, and requires the department to register, as state historical landmarks, those buildings, structures, sites, or places that the department deems to be important historical resources.
This bill would provide that, for these purposes,begin insert upon the request of the landowner and with the support of any subsequent landowner,end insert the termbegin delete placesend deletebegin insert

living and producingend insert vineyards, orchards, and groves.begin insert The bill would authorize an agricultural historical resource, such as a living and producing vineyard, orchard, or grove, to be treated or modified as per routine agricultural husbandry practices.end insert

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
Section 5021 of the Public Resources Code is
2amended to read:
(a) The department shall consider all recommendations
4for registration made by the commission, and shall register, as
5state historical landmarks, those buildings, structures, sites, or
6places that the department deems to be important historical
7resources and shall register, as points of historical interest, those
8buildings, structures, sites, or places that the department deems to
9be historical resources of sufficient historical interest to qualify
10for the placement of signs pursuant to Section 5022.5. The
11commission shall maintain a register that shall identify by number
12and description historical landmarks and points of historical
13interest.
14(b) The department may publish results of office and field
15archaeological investigation annually and shall issue additional
16publications, such as detailed site reports and area resource reports,
17as necessary, to inform the public and educational institutions.
18(c) For the purposes of this section,begin insert upon the request of the
19landowner and with the support of any subsequent landowner,end insert
20 “places” includes, but is not limited to,begin insert living and producingend insert
21 vineyards, orchards, and groves.
