Existing law authorizes the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to issue specialty license plates, including environmental license plates and specified special environmental design license plates. Under existing law, a state agency is authorized to apply to the DMV to sponsor a specialized license plate program, and the DMV is required to issue those license plates if the agency meets certain requirements.
This bill wouldbegin delete declare the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would authorize the issuance ofend deletebegin insert require the State Department of Public Health to apply to the DMV to sponsorend insert a specialized license plate that promotes awareness of kidney disease
and bears thebegin insert name and officialend insert logo of the National Kidney Foundation.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

(a) The State Department of Public Health shall apply
2to the department to sponsor a kidney disease awareness license
3plate program pursuant to this article.
4(b) Notwithstanding Section 5154, a license plate issued
5pursuant to this section shall bear the name and official logo of
6the National Kidney Foundation.
It is the intent of the Legislature to enact
8legislation that would authorize the issuance of a specialized license
9plate that promotes awareness of kidney disease and bears the logo
10of the National Kidney Foundation, with the proceeds of sales of
11the plate to be provided to the National Kidney Foundation.
