An act to amend Section 66072 of, and to amend and renumber the heading of Article 7 (commencing with Section 66070) of Chapter 2 of Part 40 of Division 5 of Title 3 of, the Education Code, relating to postsecondary education.

Existing law establishes the University of California, the California State University, and the California Community Colleges as the 3 segments of public postsecondary education in this state. Existing law, known as the Higher Education Assessment Act of 1990, among other things, expresses the intent of the Legislature to monitor the performance of the University of California, the California State University, and the California Community Colleges in several designated areas.

This bill would make nonsubstantive changes in the Higher Education Assessment Act of 1990.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.  

The heading of Article 7 (commencing with
2Section 66070) of Chapter 2 of Part 40 of Division 5 of Title 3 of

2Statutes of 1995, is amended and renumbered to read:

SEC. 2.  

Section 66072 of the Education Code is amended to
7read:

It is the intent of the Legislature to monitor the
9performance of the University of California, the California State

the following areas:

12(a) Diversification of student bodies.

13(b) Improved student transfer rates.

14(c) Improved student retention rates.

15(d) Diversification of faculty, nonfaculty academic staff, and
16administrative positions.

17(e) As a part of program review, enhanced student learning, as
18demonstrated through mechanisms designed to explore
19improvements in knowledge, skills, and abilities.
