Existing law establishes the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, which is administered by a director appointed by the Governor. The office serves the Governor as the lead entity for economic strategy and the marketing of California on issues relating to business development, private sector investment, and economic growth. The office exercises powers related to economic development, including, among others, making recommendations to the Governor and the Legislature regarding policies, programs, and actions to advance statewide economic goals.

6trade office shall have those powers and duties prescribed by the
7director, to promote and facilitate the state’s international trade
8activities.
Section 12096.2 of the Government Code is
10amended to read:
(a) The Governor’s Office of Business and Economic
12Development, also known as “GO-Biz,” is established in state
13government within the Governor’s office. The office shall be under
14the direct control of a director, who shall be responsible to the
15Governor.
16(b) The Governor shall appoint the Director of the Governor’s
17Office of Business and Economic Development to perform all
18duties, exercise all powers, assume and discharge all
19responsibilities, and carry out and effect all purposes vested by
20law in the office, including contracting for professional or
21consultant services in connection with the work of the office.
22(c) The
salary of the Director of the Governor’s Office of
23Business and Economic Development shall be fixed pursuant to
24Section 12001.
