This measure would urge the Congress of the United States to help fund water storage projects in California.

P1 1WHEREAS, In 1935, the federal government authorized $12
2million in the Rivers and Harbors Act for the construction of the
3Shasta Dam in Shasta County, California; and
4WHEREAS, This authorization was followed by another $20
5million in federal funds under the Emergency Relief Appropriation
6Act of 1935; and
7WHEREAS, One year later, in 1936, Congress appropriated
8another $6.9 million for the Shasta Dam project; and
9WHEREAS, The San Luis Reservoir, a joint use facility in
10Merced County, California, was funded with a 45 percent match
11in federal funding; and
12WHEREAS, Today, there are many proposed water storage
13projects that have been adequately studied and are ready for
14construction; and
15WHEREAS, The Temperance Flat Dam in Madera County and
16Fresno County, California, the Sites Reservoir in Glenn County
17and Colusa County, California, expansion of the San Luis
18Reservoir, and raising of the Shasta Dam are four examples of
P2 1projects that would greatly expand California’s water supply; now,
2therefore, be it
3Resolved by the Senate and the Assembly of the State of
4California, jointly, That when California has additional water
5storage, everybody wins, because more water is available for urban
6commercial and residential uses, more water is available for
7agricultural use, and more water is available to pump into rivers
8to aid in environmental restoration; and be it further
9Resolved, That the Legislature urges the Congress of the United
10States to help fund water storage projects in California; and be it
11further
12Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
13this resolution to the President and Vice President of the United
14States, to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to the
15Majority Leader of the Senate, to each Senator and Representative
16from California in the Congress of the United States, and to the
17author for appropriate distribution.
