           SUBJECT :    School Choice Week

           DIGEST :    This resolution recognizes the week of January 26,  
          2014, through February 1, 2014, as "School Choice Week."

           ANALYSIS  :    This resolution makes the following legislative  
          findings:

          1.Excellence in education is a primary goal of the State of  
            California.  California's student body is one of the most  
            diverse in the world and therefore requires diverse  
            educational opportunities.

          2.A child's residence should not determine the quality of  
            his/her education.  All students in California, regardless of  
            background, should have access to the highest quality schools  
            possible.

          3.Taxpayers and parents who fund the public school system should  
            be able to choose which school is best for their children  
            within state and local legal parameters.

          4.Parents, students, and teachers in states across the nation  
            come together each year to recognize school choice and the
