P1 1WHEREAS, Public office is a public trust; and
2WHEREAS, That public trust is eroded by actions that appear
3to place the private interests of public officials above the public
4good; and
5WHEREAS, The California State Senate has established
6Standards of Conduct for the Senate; and
7WHEREAS, The Standards of Conduct state that each Senator
8and each officer and employee of the Senate shall uphold the
9Constitution of California and the Constitution of the United States
10and shall adhere to the spirit and the letter of the laws, rules, and
11regulations governing officeholder conduct; and
12WHEREAS, The Standards of Conduct further state that each
13Senator and each officer and employee of the Senate shall conduct
14himself or herself in the performance of his or her duties in a
15manner that does not discredit the Senate; and
16WHEREAS, The ability of the California State Senate to operate
17as a legislative body must be vigorously protected; and
18WHEREAS, Senator Roderick D. Wright has violated the public
19trust and undermined the honor and integrity of the California State
20Senate; now, therefore, be it
21Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, a majority of
22the membership concurring, That the Senate hereby suspends
23Senator Roderick D. Wright from exercising any of the powers of
P2 1his office as a Member of the Senate until such time as his pending
2criminal matter has been resolved.
