This measure would honor the University of California, Davis’ great achievement in earning the number one ranking in the world for teaching and research in the areas of agriculture and forestry.

P1 1WHEREAS, On May 8, 2013, the University of California,
2Davis, was ranked number one in the world for teaching and
3research in the areas of agriculture and forestry by QS World
4University Rankings; and
5WHEREAS, QS World University Rankings is widely
6considered to be one of the most influential international university
7rankings providers; and
8WHEREAS, The University of California, Davis, was founded
9in 1905 as the University of California’s University Farm; and
10WHEREAS, For more than 100 years, the University of
11California, Davis, has engaged in teaching, research, and public
12service; and
P2 1WHEREAS, Currently, the University of California, Davis’
2College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences has 360
3faculty members, 5,300 undergraduate students in 27 majors, and
41,000 graduate students in 45 graduate groups and programs; and
5WHEREAS, The College of Agricultural and Environmental
6Sciences encompasses more than 5,000 acres, with 3,700 acres
7devoted to agricultural teaching and research; and
8WHEREAS, The University of California, Davis, is the most
9published and cited United States research university in agricultural
10sciences, plant and animal sciences, environment and ecology,
11food science and nutrition, and soil sciences; and
12WHEREAS, Researchers at the University of California, Davis,
13lead the nation in extramural funding in agricultural sciences; now,
14therefore, be it
15Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
16thereof concurring, That the Legislature honors the University of
17California, Davis’ great achievement in earning the number one
18ranking in the world for teaching and research in the fields of
19agriculture and forestry; and be it further
20Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
21this resolution to the authors for appropriate distribution.
