This measure would honor the University of California, Davis’ great achievement in earning the number one ranking in the world for teaching and research in the areas of agriculture and forestry.

P2    1WHEREAS, On May 8, 2013, the University of California,
2Davis, was ranked number one in the world for teaching and
3research in the areas of agriculture and forestry by QS World
4University Rankings; and

5WHEREAS, QS World University Rankings is widely
6considered to be one of the most influential international university
7rankings providers; and

8WHEREAS, The University of California, Davis, was founded
9in 1905 as the University of California’s University Farm; and

10WHEREAS, For more than 100 years, the University of
11California, Davis, has engaged in teaching, research, and public
12service; and

13WHEREAS, Currently, the University of California, Davis’
14College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences has 360
15faculty members, 5,300 undergraduate students in 27 majors, and
161,000 graduate students in 45 graduate groups and programs; and

17WHEREAS, The College of Agricultural and Environmental
18Sciences encompasses more than 5,000 acres, with 3,700 acres
19devoted to agricultural teaching and research; and

20WHEREAS, The University of California, Davis, is the most
21published and cited United States research university in agricultural
22sciences, plant and animal sciences, environment and ecology,
23food science and nutrition, and soil sciences; and

24WHEREAS, Researchers at the University of California, Davis,
25lead the nation in extramural funding in agricultural sciences; now,
26therefore, be it

27Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
28thereof concurring,
That the Legislature honors the University of
29California, Davis’ great achievement in earning the number one
30ranking in the world for teaching and research in the fields of
31agriculture and forestry; and be it further

P3    1Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
2this resolution to the authors for appropriate distribution.
