SUBJECT : Car Care Month

DIGEST : This resolution declares April 2014, as Car Care
Month, and urges all citizens with vehicles to "be car care
aware" by inspecting their vehicles and performing all necessary
maintenance to ensure that their vehicles are operating in a
safe, efficient, and clean manner.
ANALYSIS : This resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1.Past studies have shown neglected maintenance leads to more
than 5,600 deaths, nearly 100,000 disabling injuries, and more
than $2,000,000,000 in lost wages, medical expenses, and
property damage.
2.More than 75% of the vehicles on the road today are in need of
some type of preventative maintenance.
3.Through proper maintenance, a 10-year old vehicle can produce
fewer emissions than a poorly maintained 5-year old vehicle.
4.Proper maintenance of key safety systems such as brakes, air
bags, and lights will help the state reduce accidents and

accompanying injuries and fatalities, and proper maintenance
will reduce fuel usage by cars, and therefore, save car owners
money and reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases.
