           SUMMARY  

          This measure designates, as the "James E. Machado Memorial  
          Intersection," the intersection of State Route 49 and Elm Avenue  
          in the City of Auburn (Placer County).

           FISCAL EFFECT  

          Minor State Highway Account costs to Caltrans to make and erect  
          appropriate signs; these costs are fully covered by donations.

           COMMENTS  

           Purpose  . This measure honors Mr. Machado, who served as a deputy  
          sheriff for four years with the Placer County Sheriff's  
          Department prior to being killed in the line of duty on July 13,  
          1978.
