This measure would declare the week of June 16, 2014, through June 22, 2014, as California Manufacturing Week.

P1 1WHEREAS, California has the nation’s largest industrial
2economy, representing 11.4 percent of total United States
3manufacturing output from more than 27,000 manufacturers in the
4state; and
5WHEREAS, California leads the nation in aerospace,
6technology, biotechnology, and food processing employment; and
7WHEREAS, California manufacturers employ over 1.2 million
8citizens in high-wage, middle-class jobs and provide tremendous
9multiplier benefits to other sectors of the economy; and
10WHEREAS, Many of the world’s most innovative,
11energy-efficient, and productive manufacturers have research labs,
12assembly plants, and administration functions in California; and
13WHEREAS, Attracting new manufacturing investments to
14maintain existing job creation and support new job creation is vital
15for the long-term health of California’s economy; and
16WHEREAS, The United States is enjoying a manufacturing
17renaissance as firms increasingly choose to relocate or shift
P2 1production from overseas to more favorable locations in the United
2States; and
3WHEREAS, California leaders are committed to making sure
4California can compete to capture its fair share of this new
5manufacturing job growth and investment in the United States;
6and
7WHEREAS, Beginning in 2014 manufacturers will enjoy a
8California state sales tax exemption for purchases of manufacturing
9equipment to encourage more investments in the state; now,
10therefore, be it
11Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
12thereof concurring, That the Legislature declares the week of June
1316, 2014, through June 22, 2014, as California Manufacturing
14Week; and be it further
15Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
16this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
