SCR 127, Huff. California Manufacturing Week.
This measure would declare the week of June 16, 2014, through June 22, 2014, as California Manufacturing Week.
WHEREAS, California has the nation’s largest industrial economy, representing 11.4 percent of total United States manufacturing output from more than 27,000 manufacturers in the state; and
WHEREAS, California leads the nation in aerospace, technology, biotechnology, and food processing employment; and
WHEREAS, California manufacturers employ over 1.2 million citizens in high-wage, middle-class jobs and provide tremendous multiplier benefits to other sectors of the economy; and
WHEREAS, Many of the world’s most innovative, energy-efficient, and productive manufacturers have research labs, assembly plants, and administration functions in California; and
WHEREAS, Attracting new manufacturing investments to maintain existing job creation and support new job creation is vital for the long-term health of California’s economy; and
WHEREAS, The United States is enjoying a manufacturing renaissance as firms increasingly choose to relocate or shift production from overseas to more favorable locations in the United States; and
WHEREAS, California leaders are committed to making sure California can compete to capture its fair share of this new manufacturing job growth and investment in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Beginning in 2014 manufacturers will enjoy a California state sales tax exemption for purchases of manufacturing equipment to encourage more investments in the state; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature declares the week of June 16, 2014, through June 22, 2014, as California Manufacturing Week; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
