This measure would proclaim the week of October 19, 2014, to October 25, 2014, inclusive, as National Massage Therapy Awareness Week in California.

P1 1WHEREAS, Massage therapy is beneficial to overall health and
2is increasingly part of integrated health care; and
3WHEREAS, Consumers are spending in excess of $12 billion
4to $17 billion annually on massage therapy, and more insurance
5companies are covering it; and
6WHEREAS, Therapeutic massage can benefit people of all ages;
7and
8WHEREAS, A growing body of clinical research shows that
9massage therapy is beneficial for a wide variety of health issues,
10including stress, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, arthritis, back
11pain, muscle injury and soreness, headaches, and maintaining good
12health; and
13WHEREAS, The American Massage Therapy Association
14(AMTA), a 56,000-member professional association for massage
15therapists, provides consumer and professional education
16information on massage and helps consumers and health
P2 1professionals locate qualified massage therapists in their area; now,
2therefore, be it
3Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
4thereof concurring, That the Legislature proclaims the week of
5October 19, 2014, to October 25, 2014, inclusive, as National
6Massage Therapy Awareness Week in California; and be it further
7Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
8this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
