SCR 137, as introduced, Walters. National Child Awareness Month.

This measure would recognize the month of September 2014 as National Child Awareness Month in California to honor children’s charities, youth-serving organizations, and other nongovernmental organizations that are committed to enriching and bettering the lives of children and youth in California and the rest of the country.

P1    1WHEREAS, Numerous individuals, children’s organizations,
2and youth-serving organizations that work with children and youth
3on a daily basis provide invaluable services that serve to enrich
4and better the lives of children and youth; and

5WHEREAS, By strengthening and supporting children’s and
6youth-serving charities and other similar nongovernmental
7organizations, and by encouraging greater collaboration among
8these organizations, the lives of many more children may be
9improved and enriched; and

10WHEREAS, Heightening people’s awareness of, and increasing
11the support for, charitable and nonprofit organizations in the state
12that provide access to health care, social services, education, the
P2    1arts, sports, and other services to children and youth will help to
2better the lives of those children and youth; and

3WHEREAS, September is a time when parents, families,
4teachers, school administrators, and others increase their focus on
5preparing children and youth for the future as they begin a new
6school year and it is a time for the people of this state to highlight,
7and be mindful of, the needs of children and youth; and

8WHEREAS, Children’s charities, youth-serving organizations,
9and other nongovernmental organizations across California and
10the rest of the country should be recognized for the work they do
11to improve the lives, and promote the well-being of, children and
12youth in this state and country; now, therefore, be it

13Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
14thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby recognizes the
15month of September 2014 as National Child Awareness Month in
16California to honor children’s charities, youth-serving
17organizations, and other nongovernmental organizations that are
18committed to enriching and bettering the lives of children and
19youth in California and the rest of the county; and that public
20officials and citizens of California are encouraged to observe the
21month with appropriate activities and programs; and be it further

22Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
23this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
