Richard S. Gordon, Chair
SCR 137 (Walters) - As Amended: August 14, 2014
SENATE VOTE : 35-0
SUBJECT : National Child Awareness Month.
SUMMARY : Designates the month of September 2014, as National
Child Awareness Month in California to honor children's
charities, youth-serving organizations, and other
nongovernmental organizations that are committed to enriching
and bettering the lives of children and youth in California and
the rest of the country. Specifically, this resolution makes
the following legislative findings:
1)Numerous organizations and individuals provide invaluable
services that enrich and improve the lives of children and
youth; and they should be recognized for the work they do.
2)Raising people's awareness of, and increasing the support for,
charitable and nonprofit organizations serving children and
youth that provide access to health care, social services,
education, the arts, sports, and other services will help to
better the lives of children.
3)September is a time when people increase their focus on
preparing children for the new school year; and it is an
appropriate time to highlight and be mindful of the needs of
our children.
