DIGEST : This bill requires the California State University,
Dominguez Hills campus to rename its African American Political
and Economic Institute as the Mervyn M. Dymally African American
Political and Economic Institute.
ANALYSIS : Existing law establishes the California State
University (CSU) and allows the institution to be governed by a
Board of Trustees. The CSU and its Trustees are subject to Acts
of the Legislature; however, the system exercises autonomy in
the development of curriculum and academic standards.
This bill requires the California State University, Dominguez
Hills campus to rename its African American Political and

Economic Institute as the Mervyn M. Dymally African American
Political and Economic Institute.
Comments
According to the author, this bill would pay lasting and
appropriate tribute to former Lt. Governor, State Senator and
Assemblymember Mervyn M. Dymally who passed away this past
winter.
African American Political and Economic Institute . The mission
of the institute is to influence public policy debates through
on-going academic and community research dealing with African
American economic and political development issues in
California. In addition, the institute documents and analyzes
the professional lives and achievements of African American
public-elected officials, business leaders, and policy makers,
as well as the impact of their efforts on the political, social,
and economic development in the African American communities and
other disadvantaged communities.
