The University of California Pest Research Act of 1990 provides for the establishment of the University of California Center for Pest Research, and describes the intent of the Legislature with regard to the responsibilities of the center concerning pest control research. For purposes of the act, the term “pest” is defined to mean specified pests that are, or are likely to become, dangerous or detrimental to the agricultural or nonagricultural environment of the state, including certain insects, nematodes, or weeds, and any form of terrestrial, aquatic, or aerial plant, virus, fungus, bacteria, or other microorganism, except as provided.
This bill would make a nonsubstantive change in that definition of “pest.”

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
Section 578 of the Food and Agricultural Code
2 is amended to read:
Unless the context otherwise requires, the definitions in
4this section govern the construction of this article.
P2 1(a) “Center” means the University of California Center for Pest
2Research.
3(b) “Pest” means any of the following pests that are, or are likely
4to become, dangerous or detrimental to the agricultural or
5nonagricultural environment ofbegin delete theend deletebegin insert thisend insert state.
6(1) Any insect, nematode, or weed.
7(2) Any form of terrestrial, aquatic, or aerial plant, virus, fungus,
8bacteria, or other microorganism, except viruses, fungi, bacteria,
9or other microorganisms on, or in, a living human or any other
10living animal.
