Existing law requires the chief of any city or county fire department or district providing fire protection services and the chief’s authorized representative to inspect every building used as a public or private school within their jurisdiction,begin insert at least once a year,end insert for the purpose of enforcing specified buildingbegin delete standards, at least once a year.end deletebegin insert regulations. Existing building regulations require a building owner to maintain the fire and life safety systems in an operable condition at all times and require a written record to be maintained and made available to the fire code official.end insert
This bill would require a public or private school to submit a copy of the record of maintenance, inspection, and testing of the fire alarm system to specified city or county fire officials, as provided. The bill would require city or county fire officials to review the record of maintenance, inspection, and testing of fire alarm systems, as provided, within a reasonable time.

13(b) A public or private school shall submit a copy of the record
14of maintenance, inspection, and testing of fire alarm systems
15required pursuant to Part 9 of Title 24 of the California Code of
16Regulations, as found in Chapter 9 of Part III of the California
17Fire Code, to the chief of any city or county fire department or
18district providing fire protection services and the chief’s authorized
19representative, in a manner in which they prescribe.
20(c) The chief of any city or county fire department or district
21providing fire protection services and
the chief’s authorized
22representatives shall review the record of maintenance, inspection,
23and testing of the fire alarm system, as provided to them pursuant
24to subdivision (b), within a reasonable time.
If the Commission on State Mandates determines that
2this act contains costs mandated by the state, reimbursement to
3local agencies and school districts for those costs shall be made
4pursuant to Part 7 (commencing with Section 17500) of Division
54 of Title 2 of the Government Code.
It is the intent of the Legislature to enact
7legislation that would require county or city fire officials to review
8the record of maintenance, inspection, and testing of fire alarm
9systems, as required pursuant to Section 907.8.5 of Title 24 of the
10California Code of Regulations, while conducting their annual
11inspection of public and private schools required pursuant to
12Section 13146.3 of the Health and Safety Code.
