Existing law prescribes various duties for the Department of General Services in connection with development and maintenance of the park around the State Capitol building.
This bill would make the department responsible for the planning and construction of abegin delete memorialend deletebegin insert monumentend insert in the State Capitol park in honor of the contributions, history, andbegin delete sacrificeend deletebegin insert cultureend insert made by Native Americans in California. It would require that the planning, construction, and maintenance
of thebegin delete memorialend deletebegin insert monumentend insert be funded with private donations through a nonprofit foundation to be established.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes. State-mandated local program: no.
The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
Section 14633 is added to the Government Code,
2to read:
(a) The department shall be responsible for the planning
4and construction of abegin delete memorialend deletebegin insert monumentend insert in the State Capitol park
P2 1in honor of the contributions, history, andbegin delete sacrificeend deletebegin insert cultureend insert of
2Native Americans in California.
3(b) The department shall determine the location of thebegin delete memorialend delete
4begin insert
monumentend insert within the State Capitol park.
5(c) The planning, construction, and maintenance of thebegin delete memorialend delete
6begin insert monumentend insert shall be funded with private donations through a
7nonprofit foundation to be established.
