An act to add Section 14633 to the Government Code, relating to the State Capitol.

Existing law prescribes various duties for the Department of General Services in connection with development and maintenance of the park around the State Capitol building.

This bill would make the department responsible for the planning and construction of a begin delete memorial end delete begin insert monument end insert in the State Capitol park in honor of the contributions, history, and begin delete sacrifice end delete begin insert culture end insert made by Native Americans in California. It would require that the planning, construction, and maintenance of the begin delete memorial end delete begin insert monument end insert be funded with private donations through a nonprofit foundation to be established.

Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes. State-mandated local program: no.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.  

Section 14633 is added to the Government Code,
to read:

14633.  

(a) The department shall be responsible for the planning
and construction of a begin delete memorial end delete begin insert monument end insert in the State Capitol park
in honor of the contributions, history, and begin delete sacrifice end delete begin insert culture end insert of
Native Americans in California.

(b) The department shall determine the location of the begin delete memorial end delete
begin insert monument end insert within the State Capitol park.

(c) The planning, construction, and maintenance of the begin delete memorial end delete
begin insert monument end insert shall be funded with private donations through a
nonprofit foundation to be established.
