BILL SUMMARY: 

SB 118 requires employers to allow unpaid family and  
medical leave benefits for employees to care for a person  
with a serious health conditions who is a grandparent or  
sibling of the employee or is a person who shares with the  
employee a common residence, depends on the employee for  
immediate care and support, and has filed a declaration of  
domestic partnership with the employer.

STAFF COMMENTS:  

According to the Department of Personnel Administration,  
state law already allows such leaves at the discretion of  
the appointing authority.  DPA also reports that existing  
collective bargaining agreements with the state provide  
this benefit.
