STAFF COMMENTS: This bill meets the criteria to be
placed on the Suspense file.

Existing law requires the course of study in grades 7 or 8
to include a course in parenting education and requires the

State Department of Education to supply a sample curriculum
on parenting skills which can be used for a stand-alone
semester course or incorporated into existing courses.

This bill is similar to SB 669 (Vasconcellos) of 1997 and
SB 2138 (Vasconcellos) of 1998, both of which were vetoed.

Staff notes the author proposes amendments (LCR# 9910701)
to include parents and children in the summit.
