STAFF COMMENTS: SUSPENSE FILE
Existing law requires the course of study in grades 7 or 8
to
include a course in parenting education and requires the
State
Department of Education to supply a sample curriculum on
parenting
skills which can be used for a stand-alone semester course
or
incorporated into existing courses.
This bill is similar to SB 669 (Vasconcellos) of 1997, SB
2138 (Vasconcellos) of 1998 and SB 305 (Vasconcellos) of
1999, all of which were vetoed.
The author has offered amendments to eliminate all
provisions except for the DHS summit, leaving General Fund
costs of $500,000.
